Hermitage Quarry Tunnel

Case Study

This project involved the design and supply of over 100 TY and Y beams to form a cut and cover tunnel at the Hermitage Quarry Maidstone Kent.

Gallagher Group have owned and operated the Quarry for 25 years and the Tunnel provides a link from their existing Quarry and processing plant to a new quarry which will allow for a further 25years of production.

The tunnel has a clear span of 16m is over 100m long. It was a requirement to have the entrance of the tunnel matching the existing skewed Rock Face.Detailed Design by Banagher Precast solved this issue by changing the bridge construction from solid Deck TY beams to Beam and slab Y Beams. This allowed the beams to fan out to match the span which grew to over 24m at the skewed rock face.
