Plymouth Road Bridge

Case Study

Banagher Precast Concrete are delighted to have supplied Prestressed Concrete MY-Beams, Cill units, Parapet units and Approach units for Plymouth Road Bridge in Blackpool. Working closely with Story Contractors Ltd and Wilde Consulting Engineers, we were successfully able to deliver the three-span bridge over the Blackpool North Railway Line for the client Blackpool Council.

The existing steel bridge required to be replaced due to concerns regarding corrosion. The deck height also required to be raised to allow for the electrification of the rail line between Blackpool North & Preston.

The project consisted of 48no Prestressed Concrete MY Beams, 32no Precast Parapets, 61no Approach Units, 12no Cill Beams and Coping Units. The skewed beams varied in length from 8m to over 15m. Prior to delivery, the approach units and parapets were clad with brickwork as well as a full trial fit assembly being completed in the Banagher Precast factory. Special trough units were formed to carry services, which were a critical aspect of the programme.

1,700 tonnes of precast concrete that were manufactured in Banagher, were delivered to site during day and night time possession installations.
